Turtle half day in the Bundegi Sanctuary Zone

The turtle tour paddles in the Bundegi Sanctuary Zone in Exmouth Gulf and lasts 4 hours. It starts after high tide, so the start time shifts from day to day and a few days do not suit the tide at all. You snorkel straight from a double sit-on-top kayak. The minimum age is 8, the limit is 110 kg per person and average fitness is enough. It costs A$150 per person.

Coral by kayak from Tantabiddi boat ramp

This half day starts at Tantabiddi boat ramp and heads for the Tantabiddi Sanctuary Zone, about 30 minutes of paddling to the kayak buoys. Times follow the season: 7 am to 11 am from October to March, 11:30 am to 3:30 pm from April to September. The minimum age is 8 and the limit 110 kg per person. You should be able to climb back onto the kayak after snorkelling. The price is A$165.

Full day: Lagoon Explorer in Cape Range National Park

The full day has no fixed reef route. The start spot inside Cape Range National Park changes with the weather, so the plan follows conditions. You paddle a double sit-inside sea kayak with a rudder and wear a life jacket while paddling, with lunch and morning tea included. The eight-hour trip includes the drives, with pickup in Exmouth from 7:45 am. The minimum age is 12 and the limit 110 kg per person. Expect moderate effort: lifting gear and walking on sand and uneven ground. It costs A$280 per person.

Which Exmouth kayak tour suits you

Families with children aged 8 to 11 can only book the half days, because the full day starts at 12. Choose the turtle trip for turtles, the Tantabiddi trip for coral, and the Lagoon Explorer for a whole day on the water.

Season, tide and weather

All three trips are offered all year. Medical details and a signed waiver are required, and safety instructions are given in English only, so you need enough English to follow them. Each trip needs at least four guests. If the operator cancels for weather or too few guests, a rebooking is offered and otherwise you are refunded in full.

Bring swimwear, quick-drying clothes, water shoes, a towel and at least 1 litre of drinking water. Reef-safe sunscreen is suggested. Do not touch corals, and stand on sand rather than reef.
