Three bases, three trade-offs
Most visitors choose between three bases: a place in Exmouth town, a place near the Boat Harbour, or a night inside Cape Range National Park. They are not interchangeable. The harbour is not the town, and you should not assume that any of the three is within walking distance of a reef beach.
Exmouth sits on the North West Cape, about 1,270 km north of Perth by the Shire's published figure. The Cape Range beaches are a drive from town, so think about the daily distance first and the room second. Availability and room prices change through the year, so ask for a confirmation before you commit.

Exmouth accommodation by location
What each base gives you and what it costs in travel time.
| Base | Where it is | Works well for | Watch for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Exmouth town | Town centre on the North West Cape | Tours that collect guests from Exmouth accommodation | The reef beaches in the park are a drive away |
| Boat Harbour area | About 2 km south of the town centre | Charter and boat departures, the public boat ramp | The harbour is not a west-coast reef beach |
| Cape Range National Park | Campgrounds and one private guest-only eco-tent camp inside the park | Early starts on the west-coast beaches | Park fees, online booking and tour pickups that stop at Exmouth |
The park's own accommodation is campgrounds. The private option the park lists is Sal Salis, a camp of eco-tents that only its guests can enter. Room prices and extras for it are not given here, so ask the operator directly.

How to choose where to stay
Start with what you plan to do each day.
If you book boat tours
One operator offers free pickup at Exmouth accommodation but does not collect guests from the Cape Range campgrounds. If you sleep in the park, you drive yourself to the meeting point at the Tantabiddi Boat Ramp. Ask each operator about pickup before you pick a bed.
Tour guide โIf you want the marina
The Boat Harbour handles commercial fishing, charter boats and leisure boats. There are 2 sealed public car parks north of the harbour and a public boat ramp. The toilet and shower block at the charter berths is for berth users only. Repair works after Cyclone Narelle can cause temporary restrictions while the harbour stays in operation.
If you want to be near the beaches
Sleeping in the park shortens the drive to places such as Turquoise Bay, but it brings fees and booking rules. Camping is booked online only, and sites are released monthly. The camping guide covers the details.

What the recovery notice says.
Confirm before you arrive
The Shire of Exmouth asks visitors to confirm their accommodation before arriving, because rebuilding and limited capacity may continue. Do not assume that every property or campground is open as normal.
Roads and flights reopened
Road access restrictions were lifted from 8 April 2026, the Learmonth terminals reopened and Qantas scheduled flights resumed. That does not mean every campground or activity site is open again.
Getting there โStation coast camps
The former Ningaloo station campgrounds, now listed as Nyinggulara National Park, are closed after the cyclone, with no reopening date given. Do not plan a stay there.

Exmouth accommodation: frequently asked questions
Is the Boat Harbour in the middle of town?
No. The Boat Harbour is about 2 km south of the town centre. It is a working harbour for fishing and charter boats and is not a reef beach.
Can I stay inside Cape Range National Park?
Yes, in the park's campgrounds. The park also lists Sal Salis, a private eco-tent camp that only its guests can enter. Camping is booked online, and park fees apply on top of the campsite fee.
Will my tour pick me up from a park campground?
It depends on the operator. One operator picks up from Exmouth accommodation but not from the park campgrounds, where you meet at the Tantabiddi Boat Ramp. Ask before you book.
Should I confirm my accommodation before I travel?
Yes. The Shire asks visitors to confirm their stay after Cyclone Narelle, because rebuilding and limited capacity can continue. Prices are not listed here because they change by season and property.
Where do I look for Coral Bay places to stay?
Coral Bay is a separate base on the Ningaloo coast. Its stays are covered on our Coral Bay guide.
